Russian city wins 2014 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games
Mayor Sam Sullivan today congratulated Sochi, Russia on their successful bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The official announcement was made today at the 119th session of the International Olympic Committee in Guatemala City.
“On behalf of the City of Vancouver, I want to congratulate the Russian bid organizers on this significant accomplishment,” said Mayor Sullivan. “As host city for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Vancouver will be ready to work closely with the Sochi organizing committee to share best practices and offer them the benefits of our experience.”
Mayor Sullivan extended his congratulations to members of the Russian community in Vancouver and across Canada. He also recognized the PyeongChang and Salzburg organizing committees for their bid proposals.
Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics between February 12 – 28 and the 2010 Paralympic Games from March 12 – 21.
