Investment will help meet Project Civil City objectives
Mayor Sam Sullivan and Councillor Kim Capri today welcomed the decision of City Council to support an expansion of the Downtown Ambassador Program in Vancouver. The investment will help support the goals and objectives of Project Civil City to reduce public disorder and the open drug market.
“Making our streets more civil is one of the five goals we have established for Vancouver,” said Mayor Sullivan. “I would like to congratulate Councillor Capri, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and the Civil City Commissioner for their important work on this project. This initiative builds on our record of accomplishment to deliver compassionate solutions to our social challenges.”
Councillor Capri’s motion to expand the Downtown Ambassador Program and support its expansion into other business improvement areas outside the downtown core was supported by a 6-4 vote.
The program expansion was supported by a variety of organizations including the Vancouver Board of Trade, Vancouver Chinatown Business Improvement Association, Vancouver Police Department, Family Services of Greater Vancouver and many business associations around the city
“In addition to helping address public disorder issues in Vancouver, an expansion of the Ambassador program will support our tourism sector,” said Councillor Capri. “The Ambassador program has demonstrated a proven track record of success in our city. This investment will build on that achievement and offer an opportunity for other neighbourhoods to participate.”
