While Vancouver Olympic organizers are considering ways to save money in a time of economic uncertainty, City Council is looking at spending millions on measures to spruce up the city.
Items going to Council for approval next week include Olympic lighting for Yaletown and parts of Cambie Street as well as street scape improvements and new welcome signs at the Oak and Arthur Laing Bridges.
Mayor Sam Sullivan says it’s important for Vancouver to look nice, no matter what the economic situation may be, “There are moments in a City’s history that change it forever, and this is going to be one of them. We want to make sure, when the world arrives, we’re going to be ready for them. And we’re doing it for the long term as well, we’re doing it for the citizens.”
Council is also expected to award a 15.8 million dollar contract to help complete the Granville Mall reconstruction in time for the Games.
