Vancouver Wins Bid to Host 2013 Canadian Conference of Municipal Leaders

Mayor Sam Sullivan and Councillor Suzanne Anton today announced that Vancouver has been selected to host the 2013 Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual General Meeting and Municipal Expo.

“The FCM’s annual meeting is an excellent opportunity for municipal leaders from across Canada to learn from each other and share ideas,” said Mayor Sullivan. “I want to thank the FCM for choosing Vancouver in 2013. In addition to supporting our local economy, the conference will be an opportunity to showcase Vancouver’s success.”

“This is the top annual event for municipal governments across Canada,” said Councillor Anton. “I am very pleased that our efforts have paid off and the FCM has selected Vancouver for 2013. The conference will be an opportunity to establish new policy directions and ensure there is a local voice in dialogue with the federal government on key issues for municipal governments across Canada.”

“We are very pleased to see the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has decided to hold their annual conference in Vancouver in 2013,” said Tourism Vancouver President & CEO Rick Antonson. “With approximately 3000 attendees expected, this event will create over $4.2 million of economic activity in our city – not to mention tremendous media exposure.”

The FCM AGM and Municipal Expo takes place each year in June. It attracts approximately 2,000 delegates, 500 companions, over 150 exhibitors (600 exhibit staff), senior Cabinet Ministers and opinion makers from across Canada.
