Mayor Sullivan to Deliver Keynote Closing Address at International Drug Policy Conference This Weekend

Mayor Sam Sullivan will be delivering a keynote address to help close the 2007 International Drug Policy Reform Conference in New Orleans this weekend. More than 1000 delegates from around the world are meeting at the conference to promote drug policies based on science, compassion, health and human rights.

The conference is led by the New York-based Drug Policy Alliance (DPA). Mayor Sullivan will address delegates on Saturday afternoon and talk about:

  • how Vancouver is using the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as a catalyst for social change
  • the City of Vancouver’s Project Civil City initiative
  • innovative drug treatment options in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side

Mayor Sullivan’s appearance at the International Drug Policy Conference will follow a four day visit to Ottawa and Toronto where he met with federal Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, the Governor General, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, representatives of the Ontario government and the Mayor of Toronto.
