First time measure makes local government service more accessible: Sullivan
Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan today invited local residents to access 2007 City of Vancouver Home Owner Grants on-line. For the first time, taxpayers can complete their grant at www.vancouver.ca/ehog.
The City of Vancouver’s On-line Home Owner Grant application system allows eligible residents to claim their grant using a designated folio number and access code. Over 1500 city homeowners have already accessed the service in the past two days.
“Today’s announcement means busy home owners won’t have to take extra time to come down to City Hall to submit their grant forms,” said Mayor Sullivan. “Making municipal services more accessible is one of the five goals I have established for my government. Today’s announcement helps deliver on this important goal.”
The Home Owner Grant is a provincial program, administered by the Home Owner Grant Administration Branch, the Surveyor of Taxes and Municipal Tax Collectors. To claim the basic or additional grant, property owners must meet eligibility requirements and complete an application form each year.
In addition to accessing the web-site noted above, residents are encouraged to contact the City of Vancouver during office hours at 604.873.7633.
The January 12, 2007 Provincial Budget included additional measures to assist low-income seniors and others with a Home Owner Grant supplement. These changes ensure more than 95% of home owners are eligible for the full grant.
